Stair Treads in a Philly Townhome

Stair Treads in a Philly Townhome

Floating steps are a beautiful and unique home feature that elevate the architecture and design of a home.

A Philadelphia homeowner reached out to us about her steps in her recently renovated townhome in the Fishtown neighborhood. She wanted to add stair treads on two sets of steps- one set from the first to second floors, and the other set from the second to third floors. We were happy to walk her through her customization options for stair treads.

Stair treads are individual pieces of carpeting designed to fit over each step. They are typically installed using adhesive tape or glue to provide added safety and comfort to the staircase. People opt for stair treads for a variety of reasons- including the safety component of having better grip with a carpeted surface, noise reduction, and the ease of installation and cleaning. Practicality aside, the aesthetic and design options are endless for carpet treads.

By opting for custom treads, this homeowner is able to not only select material and color, but also make sure the dimensions of each tread is to her exact specifications. With non-traditional and variable size steps throughout her Fishtown home, custom stair treads will be the key to helping her achieve the look she wants.

She ultimately chose a product manufactured by Stanton. She selected Edgewater in the color Ecru. In the photos from the job below, you can see the treads installed on floating steps with a 5” reveal on both sides of the steps. Our team was able to measure and template the pie steps and the floating steps, which was especially helpful for the custom sizing of the steps from the second to third floors.

Look at this view of the stair treads on the steps from the top of the stairs!

This completed installation of stair treads on a set of steps and floating steps looks terrific! If you are considering carpet treads for your home, this installation can give you an idea of what your options can be to create a cohesive look in your home.
